2: Opposition to the
multiplex cinema development
The Crystal Palace scheme is almost universally opposed locally.
The opposition includes senior politicians from all parties, businesses, residents' associations and societies, environmental organisations, schools, churches and medical practices. A list is on page 3.
A number of protest groups have formed, each with different objectives and means. For example, the Crystal Palace Campaign acts as a catalyst and facilitator for lawful protest. The Boycott UCI Group targets the anchor tenant, UCI Cinemas, with adverse publicity, and so on.
Most importantly, 30,000 people have signed petitions against this scheme.
