Bromley Council have recently sent out letters to the people who had
objected to aspects of the UDP. They explained the current status of
the UDP Inquiry having received the draft Interim Report from the
Inspector. One such letter is reproduced verbatim below excepting
only that the recipients name has been omitted.
In addition a further letter has been sent to the Campaign outlining changes in the law due to come into effect in September 2004 - part of this has been reproduced below.

Dear Sir/Madam,Bromley Unitary Development Plan Review: Draft Part Interim Inspector's Report
Following the Public Local Inquiry into objections to the Council's revised Unitary Development Plan (UDP), held between October 2003 and April 2004, the Council has now received a draft Interim Inspector's Report on part of the Plan.
The draft Interim Report makes recommendations only on objections to Chapter 4 (Housing) and the related sections of Chapter 8 (Green Belt and Open Space). The Inspector's Report dealing with the objections to the remaining chapters will not be available until February 2005.
Although there is no requirement to publish the part Interim Report in advance of the full Inspector's Report, the Council is making copies available for information only. The report can be downloaded from Bromley Council's website at www.bromley.gov.uk. Alternatively, copies will be available for reference at the Civic Centre and borough libraries.
The Council will formally consider the recommendations in the Interim Report next year along with the Inspector's recommendations on the remaining chapters of the revised Plan before publishing its proposed modifications to the Plan in summer of 2005. It is expected that the Plan will be adopted by the end of 2005.

Effect of changes in the planning system by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act* 2004
"...Changes to the planning system being brought in through the start of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 later this month, require the Council to prepare a new document called the Local Development Framework (LDF). This document will eventually replace the Council's Unitary Development Plan (UDP), which is currently being reviewed.
A major aim of the new Act is to improve community involvement in the planning system. In order to do this, the Council has to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) as part of the LDF. The SCI will set out how the Council intends to engage effectively with people and organisations in both preparing planning documents for the LDF and dealing with major planning issues.
As part of the SCI preparation later this year, the Council will be consulting widely on the existing methods of public consultation used and seeking views on how these could be improved, or on alternative methods...."
