(N52) CRYSTAL PALACE PARK STATION GETS A FACELIFT - 28 SEPTEMBER 2012
CRYSTAL PALACE STATION - a picture report
Last Monday (24th) travellers on the trains to and from Crystal Palace Station were greeted with a sparkling, refurbished ticket hall - the one which had been promised in the planning application (see item N30) of 2009. Since listed buildings consent was given on 5 February 2009 (the Station is Grade II), a slow and somewhat sopradic building effort has ambled on until this week's opening. A further five months is still required to put in the three lifts providing a welcome alternative to the pervious 63 up, 32 down and 30 up steps* required for access to platforms 5 & 6. |

To be fair, there were many other changes than just the ticket hall - the result - a station more in keeping with the great Crystal Palace Park and the original Victorian station than the run-down edifice we've been used to. Hopefully, the tacky 1980s ticket hall, with its pastiche glazing will also be consigned to the graveyard of misconstrued design. The pictures in N30 show the envisaged end result.
Not only do we have a new ticket hall but we also have the amazing Brown and Green Cafe serving organic Fair Trade teas and coffees and much else besides - worth a trip to the station just for these delights!
