JOHN LOGIE BAIRD

The Sydenham Years

The original 1933 VHF vision transmitter on the first floor of the Brunel South Tower (top left)

'John Logie Baird - The Sydenham Years' and the display at the Crystal Palace Museum. The Role of the Crystal Palace in the Development of British Television, and the legacy of John Logie Baird

The Television facilities at the Crystal Palace were unequalled anywhere in Europe. No other organisation could produce from a single site - studio TV performances, transmitters and receivers, cathode ray tubes, photocells and magnetrons. In his laboratory on Crescent Wood Road, John Logie Baird developed colour television and the forerunner of today's large screen projector.
